Mineral County Parks and Recreation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community by providing diverse recreational opportunities and engaging events for all ages. We offer a variety of outdoor opportunities, and events that are perfect for families, groups, and individuals looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the area and stay active. In addition to our recreational offerings, we also host home school group classes, to ensure there’s something for everyone.

Barnum White Water Area: A premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts, with 10 primitive cabins and 9 tent sites, featuring exciting whitewater opportunities for adventurers looking to explore the area's rapids.

Larenim Park: A 373-acre park with sports fields, trails, fishing spots, and pavilions, offering a wide range of recreational activities from team sports to relaxing outdoor experiences.

FEMA Lot in Fort Ashby: A beautiful waterfront area providing access for fishing, picnicking, and enjoying the serene waterside environment.
We also organize community events and classes for home school groups, helping families and learners connect through fun and educational experiences. Barnum Cabins
Welcome to Barnum Cabins – your perfect getaway to reconnect with nature! Nestled off the beaten path along the scenic North Branch of the Potomac, our peaceful retreat offers a variety of accommodations for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.
Choose from 9 rustic, primitive cabins—each equipped with cozy bunk beds (2 in the smaller cabins and 3 in the larger ones) and an outdoor firepit perfect for campfires or cooking. All cabins, except one, come with electricity and a heater, ensuring a comfortable stay. For a more upgraded experience, check out our remodeled cabin (Cabin #7) , featuring 3 comfy beds, AC/Heat, a mini fridge, ceiling fans, and an improved floor—bringing the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort.
The campground also has 9 first-come, first-served tent camping sites, offering a truly off-the-grid experience. While there is no running water, the pit vault bathroom facility keeps things simple and convenient.
Barnum Cabins is the ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts. With the North Branch of the Potomac stocked with trout from both WV and MD DNR, you'll find plenty of opportunities for fishing and exploring the natural beauty around you.
